Get A Free Neoseeker Name Change: Fan artists and Wiki Contributors

For the longest time we've given free name changes to FAQ authors.

I'm now going to extend this to three other types of contributors:
  • NeoWiki contributors who have submitted a significant amount of text or images to the NeoWikis.
  • Members who have a significant amount of fanart in their profiles (15+).
  • Members who have an exceptional member gallery (1000 images or more relevant to games, movies, or books, with proper tagging, attaching to games, albums, etc)
Here are the Qualifications, LIMITATIONS, and Caveats!
  1. You may only make such a request once per 3 year period. It sounds like a long time but I don't want to be flooded with requests, sorry :(.
    1. Particularly prolific contributors may use a free name change for THEMSELVES up to once per year: these are people who are actively contributing for 2+ years and still actively contributing at the time of the name change request and have 3 or more 100k wikis or one wiki with 500k edits
  2. Wiki contributors must contribute to a game related wiki. We have over 100 of them so its actually quite easy. If none of the existing NeoWikis suits your fancy, check out WikiGuides, where you can start a Wiki on ANY game you like.
  3. Your NeoWiki contributions should contain a consistently high amount of actual actual text being written. In fact you should have at least 75,000 bytes in one single wiki, or 50,000 bytes in two or more wikis, and must still be actively and consistently contributing to the wikis for the past 3 months before even contacting me.
  4. For the purpose of Wiki Edits you can edit game profiles and Wiki Description Edits on the site itself, such as making Character pages (eg this page.
  5. Fan artists must have at least 15+ fanart in their profile and must still be consistently submitting fanart (at least 2 in the past 6 months). To learn more about submitting fanart check out the fanart homepage and the Art Central forum
  6. Member galleries must be filled with decent sized images, not tiny images.
If you don't know what qualifies as a name change, please visit this thread on name change requests.

To make a request of this type, please PM me with the following subject:

"Free Name Change: Fan artist"

or

"Free Name Change: Wiki Contributor."

Hopefully this new policy will allow very active members who have contributed alot or have made great use of our features to be able to change their names instead of starting new accounts.

PS. For members who contribute and have lots of NeoPoints, I hope to implement something for you too this year.

Wow, it's awesome to see you opening up more routes for people to take on name changes. Very nice Red.

this way neoseekers will definitely "keep it up!"

question: is it possible to pass the privilege onto someone else? a gifting perhaps

I was thinking about it when I wrote this, but I don't want to have to keep track of the requests. When I announce the same feature for contributors with NeoPoints we will definitely allow gifting.

so gifting is still not allowed?
i guess that explains why my request was ignored
when you do announce the same feature for contributors, then pls. note of my earlier request - thanks!

Oh sorry, gifting is something I do for wiki contributors, I will allow the same for Fan Art on a case by case basis. Go ahead and PM me again about this.

If you have enough edits on a wiki, is it possible you could get one for someone and one for yourself as well?

Anyways, this is a great idea. I probably won't be using this in the future, but I might use it soon enough.

Can I have an Account Merge instead? I need that more right now.

Redemption Jul 24, 09
Flippy, I could extend this to merging post counts/join dates, you're not a very regular wiki contributor any longer so don't quite meet my criteria yet . You have a great contribution history in the past, but on top of that I'm looking for users who consistently contribute content on a regular basis, eg at least 4-5 days a week over the past 3-6 months.

I was planning to go back to work at some point!
I was just waiting for your reply and figuring out where I can fit wikis into my schedule again, Thanks for the answer. :3

Nice idea. It might encourage people to work on wikis etc. and it gives those people who want a name change and can't pay for one a chance too.

Not that I'm one of them of course, this name'll never get away from me.

So Red, does this mean that I can finally get a name change to say "MasterOfTheUniverse" or something like that (i.e. completely unrelated to my current name?). I definitely qualify for the Wiki reason don't I?

Well so far there have been a nice trickle of requests from Wiki contributors. Glad that this policy is being taken advantage of by those helping out in the Wikis .

Has there been anything along this line that also extends to members who have contributed to Neoseeker through contributions on profiles or did I just miss something out?

I haven't implemented it yet unfortunately. I *hope* to do something about it but it all depends on the time we have.

My bad, I knew you must have mentioned it seeing as no one else questioned it themselves. Well it would be nice to see this implemented as a name change after these years is really what I am looking for and if it were to be free (though the hours I contributed make it not free) then I will take it :3

Cheers again Red.

Very nice idea there, Red! I'm hoping that I can qualify for an account merge when something involving Neopoints is introduced. Although, I don't know if you would know yet but, will someone who has contributed a fair bit in the past still qualify.. Ah.. who am I kidding, all will be explained, haha.

This is good. I've been hoping to merge my user accounts on Neoseeker as I haven't got a credit card, so hopefully I can get cracking by doing some wikis.

I suggest that this should also apply for those that have a significant amount of contributed profile descriptions, cheats and so on.

I'd love an account merger with my previous account. Even if it only has a small amount of activity, it would accurately detail my correct start date.

Too bad that despite my large contribution to the Wikis - I haven't really been all that active in them lately and as such I no longer would qualify. D;

I've contributed quite a lot to most of the wiki's I've worked on, and not to name the incident on what happened with a few others, but would I qualify for a free name change?

#
Redemption Oct 26, 09
Under the current guidelines above you don't qualify right now . I may change this in the future but for now those are the guidelines. If you pick up regular contributing again you should PM me again as you'll qualify with lightweight, but regular contribution.

Well, shoot. I'm exhausted most of my knowledge on the Wiki's I've done already.

All well, might as well wait until (1. A new wiki I know vasts amounts on is created or (2. You eventually change the guidelines.

Some 1 just took advantage of the free fan artist name change and is now known as RebeccaScene. She's the first to do so that I'm aware of .

Name changes retain all posts and profile information. Only the username of the account changes.

So, I have over 1000 images in my gallery, and they're all sorted into albums. Not all of them are from games/movies/books, so I'll need more before I can get the name change, but do I need to tag them all, as well? (I don't want to bother requesting if I need tags, but I don't want to tag all 1000 images if I don't need to...)

#
Redemption Sep 20, 10
You don't have to tag them all, but should tag a good number. Tagging is helpful for the entire community since it lets people find similar images easily

Redemption Oct 13, 10
Not yet, this is a project we may try to take on before 2k11 but the planning hasn't even started yet. I do have pretty ambitious ideas for this though - the system will be VERY useful if done the way I'm envisioning. Imagine... being able to gift name changes using NeoPoints .

Sounds epic. Hopefully it gives me enough time to convince people that getting a name change would be a good thing and to stop their complaining about liking my current name. Or I can gift someone. I'd be very interested if it's based on x amount of points, everyone would be asking Intoxication for one.

Do I have to put anything else in the PM except what I want my new username to be?
0 thumbs!
#
Xerepolis Aug 3, 11
As a PM title you'll need to put "Free Name Change: Fan artist" or "Free Name Change: Wiki Contributor." Inside the PM content just put the name you want or in cse you put in as thank you note or something else, make sure to bold the username you want. Just make sure its not an alraedy taken username by saerching in the member's directory.
