MK Dons Prove a Point

For a team that are supposedly the second best team in the league, to come to us and play like a team that's bottom is a compliment. MK proved that their current league position is based entirely on negative play, dirty and violent tactics and play acting. Di Matteo has obviously instilled some italian football style into them, and not the skillful bits.

It's sad that their goalie was warned for time wasting in the 5th minute of the game. And due to the incompetence of the referee he was able to get away with it for the rest of the game. The referee helped them get away with a lot of things, with most other referees their defender's would both have been sent off due to persistent and violent fouling, yet despite this they ended up with just one yellow card between them. Considering so many people hate MK Dons already, they aren't helping themselves with this reputation of being a dirty te

Shooting Practice

That's what hopefully we're going to be doing in training on Monday and Tuesday before MK Dons after the amount of chances we missed today. Walsall only had two shots on goal whereas we had 15! 4 or 5 of those were chances we really should have put away. It's not entirely the fault of our shooting. Clayton Ince was on fire in goal for Walsall today, no doubt if he'd been playing when we were at their place we wouldn't have been able to win there. It was good to see a goalie with a bit of character too, like Tony Roberts for Dagenham he was able to laugh at himself when we gave our banter.

After the game Darren Ferguson ranted about a small section of the supporters getting on players backs. It seems some sections of the crowd get angry when George Boyd tries something and it doesn't come off. He's a flair player and not everything he tries comes off, he's bound to lose the ball occasional

Missed Oppurtunity

Last week we showed what we can do when we're at our best, last night we showed some of our worst. We seem to have a Jekyll and Hyde syndrome, one fantastic match followed by one utterly dire one. Unfortunately due to the icey weather it meant our bad performance came against the same team we played so well against before. In a way I suppose it's a good thing, if the game last Tuesday hadn't been called off we would probably have ended up playing so poorly against our main league rivals instead of in a cup we have no chance of actually winning.

Once again Posh also proved they couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. Just like against MK Dons last year, people couldn't get into the match on time, last time they ended up walking round the side of the pitch while the game was being played. This time even though the game was delayed by 15 minutes, almost 1,000 people failed to get into the

Giantkilling

Peterborough have completed a few "giantkillings" in their time. Unfortunately I've not seen the very best ones, reaching the quarter finals of the League Cup in a run that included Wimbledon, Newcastle and Liverpool before eventually being knocked out by Middlesborough in the early 90's was before my time. The only time we beat a Premiership side in the FA Cup against Arsenal in the 60's was waaaay before my time but I'm sure the day was brilliant.

I've seen some great cup upsets though. Last year we knocked Colchester United out of the FA Cup by beating them 3-1 at their ground. At the time they were in the Championship and we were in League 2, although we are now in the same league and we are ahead of them. Our chants of "we'll be playing you next year" certainly rang true. The year before we knocked Championship Ipswich out of Carling Cup and ran Everton very close in the next round b

A Good Christmas

For a change, after we were thrashed 4-0 by Leicester I thought we would be in for the same old Posh Christmas, embarrasing defeats and poor play from our players. Instead it seems to have gone our way with some embarrassing defeats for opponents and poor play from them as well. Considering last Christmas involved defeats to Mansfield who were later relegated and also Morecambe who we were 2-0 up against, this year definately came as a pleasant surprise. Hopefully we can do this more often from this point.

Onto the Cheltenham game, I ended up having to drive the 260 mile round trip after coach tickets sold out. I hadn't expected this game to be particuarly popular as it's quite expensive to get to, especially around Christmas when money can be tight anyway. But there were over 500 Posh fans at the ground which lead to a great atmosphere to cheer the players on with.

Speaking of the ground,

The Curse is Over

At least for now anyway. Merry Christmas everyone! No doubt I wouldn't be this happy if we'd carried on our traditional Boxing Day workout and god knows we tried a bit hard to continue it but we ended with the three points and that's good enough for me, especially against third placed Milwall.

I got my sales shopping in before the game since it was a 12 o clock kickoff as well. Quick visits to Zavvi, Game, Gamestation and HMV got me what I wanted, in and out 20 minutes. Surprisingly quiet around town as well. Usually it's packed solid on Boxing Day but I guess people were scared off by the Milwall fans this year.

There may not have been many people in town but at least there was a bumper crowd at the match. 9330 is one of our highest season but of course this was boosted by the 1500 Millwall fans who made the journey north from London. We started the game brightly having two or three close

It's Christmas At Posh

And that means we're in for another dissapointing run of games before we pick up again in the New Year. To find the last time we even won on Boxing Day you have to go back to 1996 where we beat Millwall 2-0 at The Den. Previous Boxing Day defeats include a 5-0 hammering at home by Rotherham and multiple losses to Barnet. All pretty dismal stuff really.

Looking back at the stats actually could mean some good news for us. The team we are playing this year on Boxing Day is Millwall although this year it will be at London Road instead of their place. Of course this really means nothing, a lot changes in 12 years even though we find ourselves in the same league as we both were back then.

This Saturday we played Leicester, now we were confident we could change our usual Christmas form this year on the back of a 16 game unbeaten streak, even if we were heading to one of the toughest teams in the

Lee Hughes is a Murderer

I've said it but why can no one else? Yeah there's no need to bring it up in the match programme but he still did it, that will never change. This is a quote from Oldham Athletic's website in his profile,

quote
However, Hughes left the game due to personal reasons prior to the 2004/05 season, returning when he arrived at Boundary Park prior to the Carling Cup tie with Burnley on August 28, 2007.
Personal reasons? He was in prison, it was hardly his choice to leave the game. It seems silly of Oldham to skirt around what happened like that. It'd be interesting to see what the families of those who died or were injured in the accident think of his personal reasons for leaving football.

Anyway on to the match. It's a good thing we won Tuesday's game in extra time because we would have been hammered in a penalty shoot out. We had two penalties given to us in the first half, admittedly the second

Tracksuits From Matalan

Tuesday's game took me to a place where the clothing of choice is tracksuit bottoms and most parents were about 16. I'd only been in the chippy 10 minutes before two 16 year olds came in with two babies! It's clear the intelligence level isn't too high either, at one point the Tranmere fans were chanting anti Welsh chants at us. I'm not exactly a human satnav but Tranmere is a lot closer to Wales than Peterborough is.

Tranmere is the only place I've been to where they send a policeman on to read you the riot act before you get off the coach. Considering the majority of the people on the coach were about 70 it seemed a little heavy handed, especially as any fight would have meant us being out numbered about 15 to one.

The game started off pretty poorly, we had about one shot on goal in the first half and we struggled to string to passes together so it was no surprise that we went in at half

Visit to a Brothel

I've been in France this weekend, mainly to get experience of driving abroad which turns out to be surprisingly easy. If you can drive you can drive anywhere. We took the Eurostar down on the Friday which is so much less hassle than getting the Ferry. We spent about 20 minutes in the terminal before our train was called for boarding, drive straight on the train, read a book for 20 minutes and then you're on the other side, where you drive straight off and into a shopping centre. Easy.

On the Saturday we spent the day in Lille which is a pretty nice place, the only problem with French cities is that places aren't usually signposted in advance so usually when you see where you're meant to be going you've already gone past it, which means we spent around twice as much time driving around as we wanted.

For lunch we decided to do what everyone would do in Lille, visit a Brothel. L'Omnia is a br
