Boydie Wonderland
George Boyd firmly cemented himself as the most entertaining player to ever play for Posh in the second half of last night's game as he practically won the match by himself for us. Crewe were bottom of the league going into this game having conceded five against the Wobblers at the weekend. When we played them at Gresty Road we were very below par and despite them being the worst team I've seen play all season they managed to come away with a draw.
They must have thought they were going to get lucky again. Within 90 seconds of kickoff they were one nil up. It completely silenced the London Road end as no one could quite comprehend what had happened. Martin made a mistake and suddenly they were through and scored. This obviously effected the players too, Crewe were able to go back to their original formation of one goalkeeper and ten defenders and whilst we had all the possession, we had very little shots because we only seemed to be able to pass sideways around the edge of the area.
Fergie most likely gave the squad a proper bollocking at half time because we came out a lot faster in the second half. Within 5 minutes we were on level terms after Charlie Lee burst through from defence to put Boyd on for the goal. Three minutes after that and we were in the lead, McLean finally getting back to scoring ways. Boyd was causing massive headaches for the Crewe defence. Every time the ball was passed to him he'd have 5 players practically on top of him yet 9 times out of 10 he'd come out of it with the ball still.
We weren't celebrating for long though as we managed to let Crewe on one of their rare attacks score another goal to make it 2-2. We really had to attack now, the final shots tally shows this as we had 29 shots to Crewe's 5. We got our noses in front for the final time with 20 minutes to go as Keates put the ball in the back of the net. If it hadn't gone in we almost certainly would have got a penalty for the handball just before the goal.
Boyd finished the game off in the final few minutes by placing it by the far side of the goalkeeper who certainly earned his wage tonight with the amount of work he had to do. Ferguson recently reffered to Boyd as a nervous wreck after games because of the lack of support he was receiving from the fans, yet you wouldn't think that after this game's showing, the Crewe right back will be having nightmares about him for weeks.
