This is where your strikers will attempt to walk the ball all the way into the net instead of taking the best oppurtunity to shoot. Sure we had some long range shots that tested the goalie, almost all from George Boyd, but there were occasions where we were rushing through on goal and instead of taking the shot we took an extra touch and then passed it again in the box, which invariably was going to put us in trouble.
The match itself was pretty even although the final scoreline suggests otherwise. Both sides had some great chances in the first half but with quality keepers at both ends it was always going to be hard to score. Leeds certainly had the better chances in that half but neither of us really were able to put them away.
In the second half we started off pretty brightly, having a few chances at their goal. As soon as Leeds bought Jermaine Beckford on it all started to go wrong though. There is a reason he is the top scorer in the league, although he didn't show that in the match at London Road earlier on in the season. Within three minutes Leeds had a three kick on the edge of the box which was debateable itself really. Joe Lewis spilled the original free kick and Beckford was there to tap away the rebound.
We now had to really push forward to score which was always going to leave us vulnerable on the counter attack. And so it proved less than 10 minutes later when Beckford rushed forward after one of our attacks to make it 2-0. There was a brief moment of hope when we pulled one back through Mackail-Smith, the ball came back off the crossbar and there was no way he could miss from that distance. Four minutes of injury time were announced and we though maybe we could just snatch a point.
It wasn't to be however, as we were surging forward for another attack, Leeds cleared there lines and suddenly it was 3 on 1, Zakuani is a great defender but he even he can't defend against three attackers at once. Beckford linked up with Howson to finish the tie off for good. It was dissapointing to lose but if 10 years ago I was told I'd be dissapointed for Posh to lose a league match at Elland Road I'd think they were mad. As it stands we're still 5 points ahead of them and still well on course for the playoffs.
I was a bit dissapointed with Elland Road itself. I expected a bit more from a stadium that has hosted England games and Champions Leagues semi-finals. What we actually got was one quite nice stand which they can't fill and three which looked about 40 years old and were beginning to fall apart. Leeds fans will tell you it has character but that just means it's a bit crap and dilapidated.
