Tuesday's game took me to a place where the clothing of choice is tracksuit bottoms and most parents were about 16. I'd only been in the chippy 10 minutes before two 16 year olds came in with two babies! It's clear the intelligence level isn't too high either, at one point the Tranmere fans were chanting anti Welsh chants at us. I'm not exactly a human satnav but Tranmere is a lot closer to Wales than Peterborough is.
Tranmere is the only place I've been to where they send a policeman on to read you the riot act before you get off the coach. Considering the majority of the people on the coach were about 70 it seemed a little heavy handed, especially as any fight would have meant us being out numbered about 15 to one.
The game started off pretty poorly, we had about one shot on goal in the first half and we struggled to string to passes together so it was no surprise that we went in at half time one nil down. Not exactly giving a brilliant show to Sir Alex Ferguson who was sitting with Barry Fry for the game.
We finally woke up in the second half, we hit the post three times, and the crossbar as well. Just like the first match at London Road we decided to play Jekyll and Hyde over the two halves. Even after all this pressure we still hadn't scored, by the end of injury time I could see the ref was getting ready to blow for full time after our last attack so I stood up ready to go when he did. Somehow we managed to sneak it in after paying a bit of pinball in the area.
It didn't look like either of us were going to score in extra time so I figured I'd be seeing my second penalty shootout with Posh. I was confident since we'd beaten Ipswich in that one and they were two leagues above at the time. Fortunately I didn't have to go through the nerves of that again as Mackail-Smith managed to score and send us through to the third round with yet another match against West Brom, who knocked us out of two cups last year.
