Mirror's Edge [PC]: first impressions

-It's purdy
-Widescreen only is annoying as hell (anyone know a fix?)
-Not too demanding
-Cutscene animation style is kinda weird -- works for everything but the characters?
-Keyboard/mouse *bleep*ing rocks
-Runs smooth as a peach
-No runner vision is awesome, though I've only played the first chapter which, yeah, is easy

I have a 7800 GT, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+, 1GB of RAM, and ran it on medium settings perfectly. High it seems to not like. :)
It crashed once, so I installed the latest C++ Redistributable as advised, and it seems to have fixed it up like a charm.

More impressions later. :)

Update: Still crashing. Seems I have some mysterious problem causing most new games to not work. Ack.

Hehe, sorry. Maybe I'll do that sometime. Do you know of a good program for it? I'd heard of one but can't remember now. Free, ideally.

Does this game have many explosions?

Yes but no breasts, unfortunately. I think this is why it didn't sell very well.

Glad to hear the keyboard and mouse controls "*bleep*ing rock". I am ordering my copy from Amazon as I type. EA UK refusing to release the game on Steam FTL...

I really don't get why some people trash the keyboard/mouse controls so much, man. I read a Gamespy review that went on and on about it, and my friend said the same about Prince of Persia (kinda similar style). Console people need to open their minds. Took me getting used to but once I did I kinda feel like I never want to go back to controllers. I find it a lot better than when I tried this game on Xbox (nothing against it, just feels way more natural).

I just finished installing it and will try playing it later, hope it is actually good though.

And chautemoc, did you install the update to fix whatever it was? They released a PC update about two days ago for it.

Yeah, that was just for PhysX though, and my card doesn't support it. Though annoyingly, the game installs PhysX anyway.
I've been getting the same problem with Prince of Persia so I think it's just some kind of problem with my system. I thought to disable my antivirus while playing PoP yesterday..same old thing. Running out of ideas.

Would your firewall try to disrupt anything at all?

What OS do you have?

Doubtful. Prince of Persia automatically puts two exceptions in (one I think may be authentication, the other for updates)..

XP Pro SP3.

Hope you get it worked out. You were looking forward to this game like crazy, and you sound like you enjoy it... aside from the bugs.

And the widescreen.:@
Thanks dear. Did enjoy what little I played quite a bit. Not enough to really get into it though.

Some folks seem to think this lady would serve as a good movie version of Faith.

Those people need their eyes rinsed out with sulfuric acid. Bai Ling would make a horrible Faith.

That C++ redistributable thing you talk about, what exactly does it do? Does it in some way improve the way the game plays? My games always run slow, and a lot of them are written in C++.

Not sure on the technicalities, I just know a lot of games apparently benefit from it.
