My Head Asplode

SF Wastes Technology II

After months of being jobless I am finally linked to a flow of income once more. It is a good feeling, and has allowed me to fulfill a wish I've had for 7-8 years now; buy an arcade replica DDR pad.

Why not? The pieces are in place; I have a StepMania emulator set up with 1600+ songs, including every released DDR song in history from every mix. The time was right to drop mad billz! Behold the Cobalt Flux dance mat:

Certain socks (namely the slippery/new kind) don't work all that well, as you spend a lot of energy trying to not slip right off it.

The pad doesn't travel at all; it is constructed of pure dancium, long known to be the densest of metals. It can also be propped up and given more traction by replacing the foam corner wedges it was packed in and opening them up.

You can also see my other ill-gotten gains in the background. The Cobalt Flux, however, remains my most expensive of peri

Worst Tech Supportees

Tech support has its ups and downs; an average would support the idea that it's moderately rewarding. For every nice, polite customer you come across that mades a real effort to follow along and listen up, there are the... "other people". I have many names of them. Some are not suitable for Neoseeker, others cause fires or make demons writhe in pain.

Note: There are people in each of these groups that are the nicest people ever. For each of them though is a next door neighbour who had someone shit in their cornflakes that morning.

Octogenerians
Hurray! It's their first computer! Old people provide a nice balance of all of the below, including meandering thought patterns, mumbling to themselves, not realizing that I can't see them, and giving completely irrelevant stories, anecdotes, and facts. I know more about the lives of random old people scattered about the continent than I ever wanted

Sonic Flash is: TECH SUPPORT JESUS

This was a fun week. Fun, of course, being the acronym for "F***ed up nasty".

About a month or so ago I begrudgingly accepted a tech support position to help pay the bills while Nova Scotia becomes a haven for IT jobs. This will not happen soon/ever, so I am settling in. I won't mention what company it's for, but you use their products. I accidentily mentioned that evening shifts wouldn't be horrible, so now I'm saddled with the graveyard shift; 1:30-10pm. The calls towards the end are a mixed breed.

Earlier this week, after having to reset our router for the 5th time this month so far, I made up my mind that our old Linsys, who had fared our packets strong and true through the harshest of raids and the most unbecoming of YouTube sessions, needed to be replaced. Farewell WRT54G, sweet prince... You have given me much, but you f***ed with my raids too often.

Brief research showed that Future

SF Wastes Technology

Whenever I am left to my own devices for any given length of time I get a tad... stir-crazy. It's worse when I have emulators and a number of display devices at my disposal. In the past I've used my twin 24" monitors to emulate the two-screen version of the X-Men arcade game. Until now that was my favorite thing I've ever done.

For some time now however it had been my wish to somehow utilize my 42" TV in the fun. This morning's purchase of a 15' DVI extender did just this: monitor 3 was born. I quickly utilized my array of tests and silly things, such as StepMania and the aforementioned X-Men arcade emulator.

Next up is to find a nice hard dance mat, and maybe an arcade joystick of some manner. Later on is to move these functions to its own dedicated machine and double it as a media server and web server. Sadly the Asus eee Box B206 is apparently too weak to run what I want at 1080p...

> YOU ARE IN A DARK ROOM.

Sitting on a bed in a pitch black basement alone in a foreign house in a foreign city. The basement is noisy and the house is creaky, and I gave up exploration after a while as it became apparent that any hidden lurkers I happened upon would only pounce at me upon discovery.
Good time as any to start a blog.

To begin, the house is that of my aunt and uncle, and the city is Ottawa; one that I'm staying in for a few days. They went off with other relatives to their cottage while I chose to remain here. The basement is the coolest (temperature-wise) room in the house, so I'm choosing to sleep there. I will likely be here a few days further as I promised a friend we would be staying until after Canada Day before heading back home to Nova Scotia.

This only serves to explain the means by which I put myself in this position; I can't really justify or handle it any better. Whether I've logically de
