Chapter 12: Moving Forward, Yet Looking back
Alright, so it has been quite a while since I last updated. Not that too much as happened since then, though. Neoseeker, for me, has been rather uneventful. Not that it is a bad thing, of course.
I remained fairly active until the end of September. My average of a thousand posts a month has diminished, and fortunately, I am not bothered by it. I still post regularly, though, but since school started, I have had less available time. The same can be said for many other members. A lot of my time has also been spent on the Kingdom Hearts wiki. These last few months, I have worked diligently on updating and improving it. A lot of pages needed to be, and still need to be, improved. I have done things like adding decorative tables to the
Weapons and the
Trinities and Torn Pages pages. Sometimes, better images are simply required. There is still a fair deal of pages out there that have poorly written articles, but I have corrected many of them. Some pages have required a complete reorganization in the way they were presented. For example, Aether (I believe it was, can't be bothered to check) put the
Boss Strategies page of the first Kingdom Hearts game in alphabetical order. It made more sense to organize these either by chronological order or by the worlds in which the battles occur. The articles were also rampant with grammatical faults and spelling mistakes. Not that I dislike Aether, he is a good member, but he sure has made me do my share on the wiki. My share, being just about the whole thing. Right now, I just need to focus on the three Kingdom Hearts games that have been released. There is still little information on the future releases, and I would rather not get spoiled researching.
I am still the only one who regularly updates my wiki. I get more IP addresses for recent edits than I do members. What's even worse is that whenever I ask for a little help from the Kingdom Hearts fans, their articles are very badly written, which just means more work for me. Honestly, I would like a little escape. Sometimes the wiki might go a while without edits, simply because I do not feel like it. That may not sound like the best work ethic out there, but who can blame me? I am the only one who is committed in the least bit, and getting help is too often too much to ask.
Although, there is a yin to this yang. Deathsythe has been pretty helpful for all the wikis. I would be leaking information if I were too specific, but he installed the
References template in my wiki, which has shown some use and can add credibility to the wiki. This led to me creating a
Characters category for the wiki, and Deathsythe complimented it by making subcategories for each game. He also proposed tweaking the main page a bit, and it does look better now that we have gone through with it. He has not helped too much recently, but I think he has done a good job since he was promoted to Wiki Admin not too long ago. Sadly, that gets you no tag. Credit goes to Krunal as well for redirecting the link in the
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories page.
While Deathsythe and I had put our heads together for the Kingdom Hearts wiki, we had been butting heads in IE. He and members like Stem Cell and Dinosoid led the McCain campaign in the Presidential Election thread, which was popular at the time, having four total threads. They both did their best to bash Obama in ways that were surprisingly intellectual for conservatives. Koloth, I, and most everyone else (moderates/liberals) defended Obama as we could and even managed to spin things into counteroffensives against McCain. It was a lot of fun. Despite my disagreements, sometimes passionate disagreements, with them, I respect them a great deal for their civility. When the election was over, I closed the legendary thread, sealing it forever to the depths of IE.
Actually, on Election Day itself (after the results were shown), some member made a thread (in Loungin') entitled "OBAMA", because of his victory. This was followed by a stampede of threads with titles like "MCCAIN", "PALIN", "NADER", "ENIGMA", or some nutty, ridiculous things. Speaking of Enigma, he was able to come back to Loungin' on his birthday to find that all these spam threads were posted. He gave everyone involved a minimum ban of twenty days, and some got an extended ban from the supers. After that, Enigma announced his demotion from his position in Loungin'. A week or two later, he demoted, and his replacements came a few days later. Lone Warrior and Q22 have taken up the reins in his stead. They got a slightly easy start since a lot of people were banned, but most of those have expired by now.
Loungin', for the most part, has been low on my priorities, as of late. Some people thought I might get or deserved to be promoted to succeed Enigma, but I knew that would never happen. I am still the new kid on the block, and my activity simply has been too low. It will be a long time before I ever get promoted to that forum, if ever. I do not mind the new replacements either. I think they are good. I was a bit worried at first, because I knew Enigma probably handled things with at least a pinch of iron in his fist, compared to others. Fortunately, Quierta and Shane put up new rules that made things much harsher for spammers, a measure I think will improve the quality of Loungin'. Another cool addition was the new banner that we have there. It has a very fresh, user-friendly look to it. I voted for it in the contest. The Answer sure is good with graphics.
I also found out that Deis had been perma-banned. This explained a few things. She and I had a falling out just after my last update in August. We had not spoken to each other for about a month, and then she randomly IM'd me, stating that she wanted to start over. Now I saw this as a good opportunity to patch things up and get things back to how they were. I tried to rekindle our friendship, but she just seemed unwilling to open up to me like she used to do. Then she vanished without a word, and I had no clue of what happened to her until weeks later. That is when I discovered that she was perma-banned. They probably will take it off. Yugio (who is now Exile) even acknowledged that.
From my past entries and from my posts in the forums, I am sure you took note that I am, or was rather, close to Deis. It is true. Deis was...my best friend for a while, not just online, but in life. I just connected with her very well. She understood me better than anyone, and she never tried to make me look bad. We had some of the best conversations all around and played a lot on MSN's Minesweeper Flags. And, I'll confess, there was even a time when I was in love with her (I know I'm not the first, lol). I had a lot of emotional highs and lows with Deis, and I think she sort of helped me grow a bit as a person. I am not sure what drove us apart in the end. She might tell you that I abandoned her. I feel like I was pushed away. The only thing that I can say for certain is that by the end, we had both gotten sick of each other, to a point anyway. The end of our nine-to-ten month friendship may look tragic if you want to try and romanticize the whole thing, but I think it was just a stage that came and went. Deis' departure from Neoseeker and my personal life is sort of the end of an era. It is neither joyous nor melancholic. It is simply the wheel of change. My final analysis of her is that she is an overall good person and was a pretty good member, but she can be tough at times, even too tough. Her time on the Wiki Staff for the Breath of Fire series was short-lived.
Lastly, I had a part in the Neoseeker Interviews. My interview, done by Kjgmusic and Klope, was posted just after the last update. The people responded to it with good feedback. I also interviewed Daedric Prince and Willow Vampire. Both interviews were really well-liked, for the most part, so I am glad I was able to entertain people properly. Still, I would like to see Academia improve. I tried to create a special game thread, but after working on it and testing it with a friend, I felt it was too complicated and monotonous, so I dropped it. At least I tried, though. That is more than I can say for others.
Okay, so maybe the time since the last update was not
too uneventful. Some notable things actually happened, now that I have remembered it all. Also, I suppose my method of recounting is going to be obsolete, now that the Neoblogs are up. By the way, I suggest you read Klope62's about the Neoseeker Election. It's a masterpiece.
Anyway, that's all for now. I'll be back in couple or few more months with the dreaded Thirteenth Chapter!
Edit: Prior information regarding Deis' ban was false.
Glad you decided to blog it! gg!
