Viking: Battle For Asgard review

    Viking: Battle For Asgard
You can cut heads off, disembowel them, bludgeon their heads before decapitation, and neuter them with the elements.
I think it's safe to say that vikings haven't gotten enough love in the video game world. There are too many centered around the Greek gladiators and the knights of the round table... Where are the damn vikings? Oh, The Lost Vikings for the Sega Genesis? That's a puzzle game! I want to kill things as a viking! Come on, they're the most feared sort of human beings in history... and we're going to put them in a genre about as scary as the booger man? It's time to take action! Kudos to Creative Assembly for knowing everybody's pain and creating a viking game that lives up to their legacy, and kudos to Sega for producing it (now if only they had this consistent quality control... I don't know, you explain why Sonic has been so mediocre as of late!). V

Ninja Gaiden 2 (360) Review

When you think of hard games, you bring up Contra 3, Super Ghouls ‘N Ghosts, Silver Surfer and, of course, the Ninja Gaiden trilogy. The Ninja Gaiden trilogy for the NES was and still is awesome (except the third one - it was okay but was way more frustrating than challenging). Nothing but nostalgia from there on. There was also 3D Ninja Gaiden for the original Xbox. Damn good tribute to nostalgia, I say. Its one tricky mofo, much harder than God of War and Devil May Cry, but still an awesome game everyone with either an original Xbox or a 360 should give a shot (and there’s always Sigma for PS3 owners). So after doing away with Ninja Gaiden Alpha Turbo Dub Edition Remix, the developers started tinkering with some new stuff for a sequel. When it came out and everybody played it, they noticed that it was a good sequel, but needed about 4 or so months of development since it got glitch

Super Paper Mario review

Let me be honest with you guys - I don't particularly care for The Thousand Year Door. I liked the first Paper Mario game, but the sequel was watered right the fudge down. Sure the story was good, if inferior to the first game... Actually, all of the second game felt inferior to the first game, except for the villain, paper planes and graphics. To me, it was a mixed bag when compared to the original and Super Marip RPG, but good on its own still. So what we have for the third game, is one more like Super Mario Brothers than Super Mario RPG. Some say it's a bad thing - I reckon it's a good thing. I was getting kind of sick of this style, but then again, I play heaps of RPGs, so it kind of made sense I guess... anyway, it was nice to be like the Mario of old while keeping the paper visuals and paper elements. In all honestly, I got hooked to this game. It was awesome.

The Darkness review

The minute that you think "adaptation", you start thinking "oh great another shitty game, job well done for pointing out this game's shittyness man" straight after, and I'd smack you out, because this is actually a good adaptation. If you don't know what this game is adapted from, it's adapted from a comic book of the same name, and a fairly good one at that. You would've expected this to be a movie - I mean, if they could make movies out of Superman, Batman, Watchmen and Spiderman, why not The Darkness - but hey, I guess people have better ideas, so somebody over at Starbreeze Studios decided to purchase the license and create a game based off that comic. The end product turned out well enough, and if you approach this just expecting a game, you'll be entertained. Hell, you'll probably fall in love with this game. But if you approach this critically, ehh you won't like it as much, which

Mirror's Edge review

+ Great platforming gameplay with a first person perspective
+ Good enough controls
+ Sweet graphics
+ Cool varied soundtrack
+ A story that makes sense
- Frustrating at times due to cheap moments
- Controls feel awkward at first
- May get confused as to what control is supposed to do what

One thing I find amazing is that while long running series like Zelda, Mario and Sonic do the same crap over and over (with the exception of Sonic Unleashed), the game series that just come in are trying all these bright and innovative ideas, or just improving the concept of another series. Look at Dead Space! It's pretty much everything Gears of War 2 wishes it could be! There's Skate, which kicks the shit out of post-Pro Skater 3 Tony Hawk games with some slick controls and an emphasis on motion, instead of just "hey kids hold X, release and press square to do kickflip". Now to improve what many people would

Bionic Commando looks SWEET

Instead of boring everyone with a long wishlist of what video games I want this year that I probably won't get because I still haven't been bothered enough to finish what I have now, I'll just give everyone ONE GAME that's been captivating my interest lately - Bionic freaking Commando!

I've never played Bionic Commando growing up because I didn't have an NES growing up. I had a Sega Master System, but that doesn't matter, because I've been playing the original Bionic Commando on an NES emulator for quite some time, it's a pretty good game, and I might consider Bionic Commando: Rearmed when I can be bothered enough to buy it in the Xbox Marketplace.

When I found out about this game a while ago, I was interested to see how a kickass NES game would translate in 3D (like 3D-3D, not sidescrolling-3D with some 3D-3D sections here and there, at least that's what I heard). Reading an article about

Rising Warmech - could be the best if it existed

An idea that's been swimming in the minds of myself and a couple of friends via MSN is one that involves a game that could be as popular and as good as Fallout 3 or Far Cry 2 (or as obscure and awesome as Metal Storm). The format will be posted like the idea for the Mario game, but this one actually has a name. So ladies and gentlemen, grab yourselves a soda, because this might take a lot of explaining. Even in the beta stages, it's going to be a lengthy one to read.

Story:
After the disaster of 2012, Earth was mostly destroyed, though surprisingly, it remains as a planet, if desolate and mostly uninhabited. The survivors were all mutated humans (with dark, pale skin and some parts being bigger than others or where they shouldn't be), cockroaches and primitive robots (such as walking car motors and 2-legged slot machines). With the combined efforts of each other, the survivors managed to g

An idea for a new Mario game

This is something I've had in my mind for quite some time. I've been a big fan of the Mario series, but I've felt that he's worn himself thin. He's either in a platformer, an RPG or a sports game. I admit that Mario Kart is a fun series (save for the *bleep*ING BLUE SHELLS! DIE YOU MOTHER*bleep*ERS!!!) and that the main series is at least attempting to stay fresh, and that Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time was above-average and I can't wait for Mario and Luigi 3 to come out June, July or August of next year (2009 if you're reading this after 2008). Okay, I'm straying far off-topic...here's the idea I have in mind:

Story:
Mario and Luigi are resting at home one day when they get a letter from Toadsworth stating that Bowser is attacking the castle and has kidnapped Peach for the umpteenth time. Mario and Luigi head to the castle, find Peach and come close to defeating Bowser again, but Bowse

First impressions of playing the underrated PS2 gem known as the Mark Of Kri

The Mark of Kri is a game not too many people talk about. I mean, yeah, it was one of the more hyped up and talked about games in 2002, but eventually became a forgotten gem. Gee, could it be because of games that rip this off? Shadow of Rome and God of War, maybe? Well, whoever or whatever it was, it made this game slip under everyone's radars, only to be a collector's item. For shame...

The Mark of Kri plays like a hack and slash game. Basically, you're mashing buttons (or mostly X) to perform some combos and kill enemies. There are also some times where you get to be stealthy in your kills and even disarm your opponents. They can be quite flashy and sometimes, lethal (one combo, at times, decapitates the enemy), though I always just mashed a single button, or whatever button it over the enemy's head when I target them. Speaking of which...

The targeting system is kind of unique, as you
