Blue Screen of Death? I'd prefer coal in my stockings =(

Well, I've been getting a large amount of the infamous BSoDs lately, and it has really been getting on my nerves. I'd load up my user, and start to do something. Anywhere from one to thirty minutes after starting up is the normal time for me to get a BSoD Stop Error. Usually they are the same one, but it switches up occasionally. I actually wouldn't be surprised if I got one while typing this blog post, as I get them frequently when typing up posts on Neo. After trying to fix it with the aid from people on IRC and getting The Slayer on MSN, it was still happening. They even happen to me while I'm in Safe Mode is the problem, so fixing it in there is a bit of an issue.

I went online and it said to do something in the BIOS settings, and after looking up how to access it, I thought I'd try it. So I rebooted, and before anything loaded I tapped F1. It went to this one screen with the system information, and upon exiting that screen it led me to another one with five options. The first was to return to that system info screen, and the following three were to run tests on parts of the computer. The fifth was to exit and do a normal start up. After doing those three types of checks, I went ahead and loaded up my user as normal, and so far I've been just over four hours without a BSoD Stop Error, which is quite unusual. Maybe I fixed it by not really doing anything? I dunno, either way I'm not complaining.

Firefox 3.5.....could it be the problem? I was having the STOP ERRORs before I downloaded it, but ever since I did, they had been happening more frequently. Just as well, Firefox 3.5 crashes sooooooooo much. I've had it crash at least four times as many times I've had a STOP ERROR, of which I've had a large amount as well. Still using it for some reason though. =P

Well, hoping that I don't get anymore Blue Screen Stop Errors. Still got a warranty until like February of next year, and I don't have anything super important on this laptop. Still, I'd rather not go through the hassle.

We have a computer at work that regularly gets BSoD, though not quite as frequently as you were getting them. Fortunately all we ever use it for is receiving orders so nobody actually uses it for long periods of time.

Hope your laptop carries on strongly now, although at least you've still got that warranty if all else fails.

Hehe, thanks. Just BSoD'd for the first time since it happened. This time I got an error I've never seen before though, 0x00000001. I looked online and all of the solutions were to download these free Registry Scanner tools, which would show how many errors you have, but only fix about five of them for free. The strange thing was, one Registry Scanner only counted just over 180 errors. Another found 906, and after cleaning the free five, went down to 901.

I really don't feel like paying for a registry scanner though.

3.5 seems to hang for me whenever loading Java stuff..it's pretty annoying. They're going to be releasing a patch in the next week or three - keep an eye out.

Heh, good to see I'm not alone on FF 3.5 crashing so often.

Well, apparently there is something wrong with my RAM, so I'll be contacting HP tomorrow. Looks like I'll be on limited activity most likely, as I won't be able to do much on the Wii or PS3 browsers, and having to share the family computer means only a few hours a day spread out that I can get on.

I have been dealing with BSODs ever since I got my new computer on May 20. Chad, welcome to my world. The only difference is that my computer is pretty much fixed, I did it myself, and I probably have seen ever BSOD message that has existed in history.
