Where's the tooth fairy when you need her?!

Hello fellow Neoseekers!

As I sit here, I cannot help but dwell on the fact that in 15 hours or so, I shall be having four of my teeth surgically torn out of my face. Okay, well really it's not that gruesome! The time has come for me to get my wisdom teeth removed. Finally I might add, I made this appointment nearly five months ago. I'm not too nervous as I have had two mouth surgeries before where they have removed teeth (yay, the joy have orthodontics and all things that come along with it!), I'm just more so cringing at how empty my wallet is going to be after the procedure. I've already stocked up on soups and puddings and the like for the assuredly painful days that are to follow. The oral surgeon told me that the top of one's mouth heals quite quickly, it's the bottom which causes you all the pain. He took a look at my xrays and luckily there is no chance of them hitting the nerve during surgery that runs along one's bottom jaw, but my teeth are close enough to it that the swelling will put pressure on it and my lips will be numb for a while. That sounds like a barrel full of fun!

So, I'd like to hear about your wisdom teeth experiences if possible. How long did it take for your mouth to feel in decent shape again? What sort of medication did they give you (yes, I am curious about that! :o).

I hope that one day humans will evolve to no longer need wisdom teeth, because they are pointless and make wallets cry.

By the way, I switched back to being pink again. I just adore pink too much, plus the protesters attacked me. I'll leave purple to Quierta from now on!

Sorry but we've neutralized most aspects of human evolution with medicine. You'll have to suffer bad dentists for eternity.

You know what I hate about dentists? It's the fact they always tell you that your previous dentist sucked. Every time!

Are you getting knocked out, or laughing gas? Because if you have the choice, choose laughing gas. Probably the most hilarious time of my life, haha.

The pain isn't too bad afterwards, or at least it wasn't for me. It bleeds a ton though, which I thought was kinda cool. Just ice it for the first 4 hours after and take your pain meds. It's not bad.

Thanks for your response! I'm getting knocked out, as far as I'm aware laughing gas isn't an option. I'd rather just go for a nice little nap and wake up with everything all done, than be even semi aware of what's going on. Basically I'm a big chicken!

I've been knocked out when I've went to the dentist before too. Just try to stay brave and hope for the best.

Thanks. I've been knocked out before as well, I've had two mouth surgeries as I have said in my entry. I just haven't had any experience with bottom teeth being removed, hehe.

    I absolutely hated Laughing Gas.

I will never let them give it to me again. Only the numbing shot from here out.

And yeah, they knock you out to remove wisdoms. Haha. I'm glad mine are fine. :>

It's actually really weird/funny, my friend got his removed two summers ago. He was completely out of it aftewards. He was like, trying to talk but he couldn't, and he was also like choking on his tongue for a little bit. It was so weird. He didn't remember any of it though. Haha.

Also, once we got back home he thought he was fine...he was running around, tying to dance/talk. I was trying to tell him to stop, and warm him he was only alright because the anesthesia was still kicked in...but he didn't listen. About 15 minutes later he was crying, literally. It was so funny.

The gauges were so bloody too!

I had eight teeth pulled out with no gas. =( They just a lot (a lot!) of needles into my gums to knock out the nerves individually and I had to lay there for hours.

Weren't wisdom teeth though, just normal ones.

Yeah, the two teeth I have had removed were both normal ones as well, not sure how much of a difference it makes (if any).

I had my four wisdom teeth out last summer, and it really wasn't that bad. I was knocked out, and when I woke up I was pretty woozy and my mouth was bloody. I slept for the rest of the day with gauze in my mouth and didn't even use any of the painkillers that they had prescribed. My diet changed to mushy foods for about a day or two, and I had to clean my mouth with warm salt water. Otherwise, I was ready to go in about three days.

I went out with a friend on the third day, and she seemed pretty surprised that my mouth wasn't swollen at all, so maybe I'm out-of-the-ordinary?

    Either way, good luck!

I had two of my baby teeth pulled out when i was like 12, y dentist didn't bother knocking me out though, he just yanked them. Sooooo sore, plus the blood was gushing from my mouth, not pleasant.

One of the advantages to living in Scotland though, is dental care is free, mwahaha.

I've heard you can feel the holes in the back of your mouth for a few days or weeks after the procedure has been completed... that always weirded me out. haha. And guess what! I guess I have evolved because my dentist took x-rays and I don't have any wisdom teeth. haha. I wanna know what laughing gas feels like though, but I respect your need to be knocked out. I'd do the same thing. Who wants to be awake for that? O____o

It's true, after your mouth stops being sore you still have holes in the back of your mouth. Even when I could eat solid foods again I had a syringe the surgeon gave me that I had to rinse the holes out with. Pretty gross stuff.
